CREATURES

Townsfolk: Gelflings
Gelflings are small creatures that populate most of Visium. They live in tribal communities and typically are dominated by female leaders. The females have wings and are able to fly while the males have none. Some of them live on the surface of the land, while in other lands outsides of the skirts of Somnius, they can live underground. They have little knowledge about their history here in Somnius, which seems very odd, and are very amicable. They seem pretty excited to have outsiders stay in Somnius because they make it apparent that they are weaker species. Gelflings worship The Moon and some believe in the myth of a dragon deity that used to rule the land, but no history reflects there ever being a creature like that. They often vocalize being afraid of other outsiders besides the playable characters. Gelfings are the most meek and gentle of creatures here and want to be protected. They are eager to cook, knit, and show hospitality to those who show them peace.
Townsfolk: Goblins
Goblins make up the second largest population in Visium and vary in diferent shapes and sizes. Like the Gelflings, they have little knowledge of their history here in Somnius. Some worship The Moon and some believe in the dragon myth, but most of the time, they're pretty happy to just do their own thing. Goblins are more crafty as far as making armor and weaponry and love to drink and have a good time. Goblins are more prone to fighting and showing aggression, but for the most part are also very amicable.
Townsfolk: Mermaids
Mermaids are a rare spectacle of Visium, but somehow several of them ended up in Lake Omen. They are a hard sight to see in Lake Omen, but those who spend plenty of time near the lake may get to catch a glimpse of them. They are elusive and mysterious and have a hypnotic singing voice. Although beautiful, they have been said to lure guests to them and consume them as food. They give off the aura of beauty and elegance, so they couldn't be vicious... right?
Townsfolk: Faeries
Deep in the enchanted forest, one might find several small faerie villages hidden inside the trees. While they may be intriguing to look at, the Gelflings in the town will warn you not to disturb the village if you can. Faeries are small enough to fit in your hand and have insect-like wings, not unlike that of a butterfly or dragonfly. Whether male or female, the faeries are beautiful to look at up close. They understand the common language but cannot speak, expressing their emotion in chirps, flutters and non-verbal gestures. Do not be fooled by their adorable looks. Most faeries range from mischievous to vindictive. Once offended for any reason, they will target a person relentlessly and their pranks range from stealing important items to putting something poisonous into their food and drink. The particularly powerful faeries have magical ability. They can cast whimsical but unpleasant spells such as cursing a person to float helplessly for a few days or dance until they pass out. They get offended if you sit on them, insult them or step over their fairy rings.
Townsfolk: Dragonkin
Decended from dragons of eld, dragonkin are humanoid beings with scales and dragon features. From long tails and lizard like facial features, they clearly call back to their dragon roots. They're a proud people and some can track their lineage back many generations, some even claim to have distant relatives hatched from Seravos' own clutch so long ago...
NPC: Myrta
You’ll only be able to find the Witch of the Woods when she wants to be found. This mysterious woman comes and goes, appearing when the town needs a bit of help. When the moon turned red and people were changing into werewolves, she enchanted arrows and instructed the townspeople and dreamers on how to reverse the effects. She’s one of the few natives knowledgeable about offensive and defensive magic and she seems to know much more about what’s happening in Visium than she lets on. If asked any questions about the land, however, she shakes her head, changing the topic.
creatures: shadow direwolves
The shadow direwolves are mysterious visitors from beyond the sea. They typically exist as shadows but become strengthened when the moon becomes red. No one knows where they came from. When asked about them, the townspeople go into a loop about how afraid of them they are and how they killed many children, but they seem incapable of thinking critically about their origins. From beyond the ocean? They don’t know what you’re talking about or what an ocean even is...
Creatures: mailmice
The mailmice are led by Sir Matthew Mousefield and they run the postal system in Somnius. They are regular mice who wear little hats and satchels. They can be skittish, and often hide inside flowers when frightened.

The mailmice are known around Somnius for liking cheese, and indeed they hand out a piece of cheese to all dreamers who elect to work as postal workers, but in reality, no one has ever asked the mailmice how they feel about cheese. It's likely that the cheese they give out to their non-mice coworkers has all been regifted out of politeness.
Creatures: Fireys
The Fireys are carefree, immortal pranksters who live in the forest. They love to party, which in their terms means dismembering themselves. They commonly pluck out each others eyes and eat them, behead themselves and kick the heads around like a football, or pull off each others arms and play a game of keepaway.

The Gelflings are not too fond of these party-loving, untroubled creatures, and will warn dreamers to stay away from them if possible, lest they be forced to join in on their games.
Creatures: skeksis
The Skeksis' affiliation is unknown, however it is clear they have some connection to Vaeros. They come to Somnius to take taxes from the Gelflings and Goblins, and are not exactly kind or gentle about it. They are not picky on what form the taxes take— any kind of material goods or wealth will do. Once they have gotten what they came for, they retreat back into the labyrinth.
unknown: the moon
The moon in Visium is large and very beautiful. She is worshiped by the Gelflings as a deity and there is a church dedicated to this worship. When the local people speak of the moon, they speak of her as if she were a living goddess and sing her praises endlessly. Every February, for some reason, the moon turns blood red. No one is certain why this happens, but the effects of the blood moon bring about some sort of catastrophe to the land without fail. The townspeople believe that she is angry at the uncaring world. To attempt to soothe her, they hold a festival every February to celebrate love. So far, this has never worked.
unknown: luck dragon
While most of the Gelflings and Goblins in Visium worship the moon goddess, there are myths of a dragon deity that once ruled over the land. There is some dragon symbolism visible around areas of Somnius, however none of the history books in the library hold any mention of Visium having had any rulers other than Vaeros. No further information can be found about this mythical dragon deity at this time.
